A person who contaminated candy with tranquilliser and distributed them to children at a summer camp in the region has confessed to sexual offenses against two boys who were nine and ten years old.

The defendant was detained after eight youngsters and a grown-up experienced illness at the location in the summer month.

The 76-year-old, from that region, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.

Yet, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was against a nine-year-old child.

The defendant was remanded in custody prior to a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Candy game'

The prosecutor, handling the case, described the criminal behavior to the judicial body.

She said his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer camp which he managed.

The man engaged in a "sweet game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor stated, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and request they to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".

She informed the proceedings Ruben had played this game with the boys "repeatedly", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the next day.

She stated Ruben had been capable of justifying this for many years as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had suspicions in July 2025.

Mrs Prior KC added: "This year his stepson had worries about the activities, for good reason.

"They chose" to have a look in the individual's items."

Mrs Prior KC said materials including lubricant, Vaseline and injection devices were found, and his stepson alerted the authorities about his suspicions.

She explained the man continued to engage in the "treat game" with six youngsters that evening - July 26th - and they were all sick the following morning.

"Authorities" had not gone out by that point," she continued.

The regulatory agency, the investigative body, previously told that it was reviewing the police response of the events.

The prosecutor explained the minors were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the stepson called the authorities a second time.

She said the defendant then conducted the "candy game" in a room of five minors.
