Devastating Update on UPS Crash: Death Toll Climbs to 13

The number of victims resulting from the transport jet which caught fire and crashed has now climbed to 13, per recent announcements.

Mayor's Statement

While en route to the Workers’ candlelight gathering, I learned of a 13th person that passed away as a result of the plane accident,” wrote the local official in a online message. “My heart are with the relatives, companions and peers of all who were taken in this recent calamity. We will get through this as one.”

Deceased Confirmed

A release from UPS listed the flight crew on board the aircraft as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.

“Our sympathies go out to each employee who has been affected and all in our community community – supporting you and ensuring you get the attention and assistance you need is our main concern,” the firm’s communication expressed.

Probe Findings

Federal investigators announced that the jet’s wing ignited and an motor fell off shortly after takeoff from the airfield, resulting in the aircraft to fall and burst into a fireball.

The NTSB stated it is examining the aircraft’s upkeep logs, which was in the state for repairs a period ahead of the crash.

Aviation records showed the plane was on the runway in the Texas city from the start of last month to mid-October.

“We are cognizant that this aircraft was located in the facility,” said an investigator on later, without providing a precise date range. “We will examine each aspect of maintenance that was done, even the San Antonio period, right up to the date of the flight.”

Retrieval of Key Items

The pilot’s recorder and information unit were found, and the power plant was located on the airfield.

The units – called black boxes – were built to endure collision damage and intense heat from blazes, and they appeared to be intact when found within the crash debris. Officials intend to reviewing recordings from the devices.

Aircraft’s concluding recorded information showed an altitude of 475 feet and a rate of 210 miles per hour prior to the accident.

Service Background

Based on Federal Aviation Administration records from that date, a crack on a component in the fuel container needed repairs.

The company ST Engineering, which stated it provides aircraft servicing for the carrier’s jet and runs a maintenance center in Texas, declined to speak, but expressed it would assist completely when relevant authorities reached out it.

Services Restart

In the meantime, UPS Worldport services restarted last night with its overnight or nighttime process, representative Jim Mayer said. The three tarmacs at Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport were also open again.

The UPS package handling facility in Louisville is the company’s biggest. The facility engages more than twenty thousand people in the area, processes three hundred flights per day and sorts over 400,000 packages each hour.

Community Reaction

A memorial was conducted on the evening of 6 November by the regional worker’s group, which represents workers at the Louisville airport, the company’s biggest shipping facility.

The union chapter, which represents UPS workers, began the vigil with a moment of silence at 5.14pm, the approximate hour of the crash two days earlier.

“This tragedy was so unexpected, so surprising,” the official addressed the crowd of attendees. “No one had a chance to part to each of those who we have lost.”
